“SAMG Entertainment Reduces Losses Amid Strategic Big Bath! Cuts in Cost Ratio and SG&A Expenses Lead to a 37% Decrease in Operating Loss for Q2”
-Cost ratio decreased by 7.5%, and SG&A expenses reduced by over 500 million KRW, narrowing the deficit.
-Exit from low-growth sectors like fashion and gaming to focus on IP production and value-added revenue streams
-Aims for profitability by year-end with ‘Heartsping: Teenieping of Love’ success, global revenue growth, and new IP launches
SAMG Entertainment Co., Ltd. (CEO Suhoon Kim) has successfully narrowed its operating losses. On the 14th, SAMG Entertainment announced that its cumulative sales for the first half of this year reached approximately 49.6 billion KRW ($37 million), with an operating loss of around 9.6 billion KRW ($7.2 million). The company reported a loss of about 5.9 billion KRW ($4.4 million) in Q1, followed by approximately 3.7 billion KRW ($2.8 million) in Q2.
Particularly notable is that SAMG Entertainment managed to lower its cost of sales ratio by 7.5% and reduced SG&A (Selling, General, and Administrative) expenses by over 500 million KRW (around $375,000) in Q2, effectively cutting the operating loss by about 2.2 billion KRW ($1.65 million).
A SAMG Entertainment spokesperson commented, “The key takeaway is the improvement in Q2 results compared to Q1. By exiting low-growth sectors like fashion and gaming and focusing on our core business of IP production and related value-added services, we were able to streamline our cost ratio and SG&A expenses.”
However, despite these improvements, SAMG Entertainment’s cumulative net loss for the first half of the year stands at approximately 16.3 billion KRW ($12.3 million). The company also disclosed a derivative transaction loss on the same day, attributing around 4.8 billion KRW ($3.6 million) of financial costs in the financial statements to a loss on the valuation of derivatives linked to previously issued convertible bonds.
“The derivative valuation loss is a non-cash loss, meaning no actual cash outflow occurred,” the spokesperson explained, adding, “This is simply an accounting recognition of a derivative valuation loss due to the difference between the conversion price of the convertible bonds issued by SAMG Entertainment and the market stock price.”
SAMG Entertainment also announced its plan to focus on profitability across multiple fronts with the aim of achieving a turnaround by the end of the year. Revenues from the highly successful domestic 3D animation film ‘Heartsping: Teenieping of Love’ are expected to reflect in the financials for the second half of the year, with additional revenue anticipated from the film’s release in China.
Furthermore, SAMG Entertainment is positioned for high growth as a global IP holder. In the first half of this year, the company’s Guangzhou distribution subsidiary in China generated approximately 10 billion KRW ($7.5 million) in sales, surpassing last year’s total annual sales. There is also anticipation for further growth following the recent announcement of the Japan airing of Teenieping Season 2 and the simultaneous entry of related merchandise into offline stores.
In the second half of the year, several new IPs are set to launch sequentially, including ‘Metal Cardbot’ Season 2, ‘Wish Cat,’ and ‘Catch! Teenieping’ Season 5. The company has also signed new IP licensing and distribution agreements with prominent domestic companies such as GS Retail, Mega Coffee, Mom’s Touch, and Samchully Bicycle, forecasting strong revenue growth in the second half of the year.
SAMG Entertainment CEO Suhoon Kim stated, “SAMG Entertainment possesses the capabilities and expertise to create IPs that can succeed in the global market, and we have established a revenue model that enables the generation of various high-value-added streams based on our key IPs. With the ongoing success of our films, new IP launches, and expansion of global revenue, we are confident that we will soon demonstrate tangible improvements in our financial performance.”
