SAMG Entertainment Co., Ltd. (CEO Suhoon Kim) has announced the expansion of ‘Catch! Teenieping Season 2’ into the Japanese market. On the 13th, SAMG Entertainment confirmed that ‘Twinkle Catch! Teenieping,’ the second season of the popular series, will air in Japan this October through a contract with the well-known children’s channel ‘Kids Station.’
Following its premiere on Kids Station, ‘Catch! Teenieping Season 2’ will be broadcast on major terrestrial channels across Japan, including TOKYO MX and TV Osaka. Additionally, it will be available with Japanese dubbing on global streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, as well as on Japanese OTT services like U-NEXT and DMM. This marks the second time that SAMG’s core IP, Catch! Teenieping, has entered the Japanese market, following the successful release of Season 1 in 2022. Industry experts view this as a significant milestone, demonstrating the potential for success of Korean IP in Japan’s traditionally insular animation market.
A representative from Kids Station stated, “The decision to air Season 2 was made based on the strong interest Catch! Teenieping Season 1 received from Japanese viewers. With Japan’s toy market expected to exceed ¥1 trillion ($6.8 billion) in 2023, we anticipate that Catch! Teenieping’s market share will expand significantly with this additional entry.”
SAMG Entertainment also announced that it will begin selling related merchandise alongside the airing of Season 2. Catch! Teenieping Season 2 merchandise, produced by SAMG, will be launched by the renowned Japanese toy manufacturer ‘Lyric’ and will be sold in prominent offline stores such as Toys “R” Us and Yodobashi Camera.
Arai, president of the toy manufacturing company Lyric, explained the decision to sell Teenieping toys “The adorable characters and engaging storylines convinced us of Teenieping’s potential for success in the Japanese market. We are already seeing positive responses from major retailers like Toys “R” Us and Yodobashi Camera, and we anticipate significant growth ahead.”
Miseon Song, head of SAMG Entertainment’s Japan Planning Team, stated, “Entering the Japanese animation market is relatively challenging compared to other countries, so we worked with skilled Japanese creators from the planning stage to facilitate the export of our IP, a strategy that proved successful. SAMG Entertainment is the first Korean company to both broadcast and commercialize an IP in Japan. With Season 2, we plan to expand our fanbase through exclusive marketing and create high added value by selling merchandise in well-known offline stores,” she said, outlining the company’s ambitions.
