SAMG Entertainment Reports Q1 Profit as Global IP Business Gains Momentum

SAMG Entertainment, the global IP content company led by CEO Suhoon Kim, reported consolidated first-quarter revenue of KRW 37.6 billion and operating profit of KRW 3.9 billion, with an operating margin of 10.31%, the company announced on May 15.

The results mark the company’s first quarterly earnings report since returning to full-year profitability in FY2025. Despite the seasonally slower first quarter, SAMG Entertainment maintained a double-digit operating margin, reflecting a more stable earnings structure. The company said continued expansion across online, direct retail and global IP businesses helped offset changes in large-format retail distribution channels.

SAMG Entertainment’s debt-to-equity ratio improved significantly to 40.1%, down from 216% at the end of 2024, signaling a substantial strengthening of its balance sheet. Gross margin came in at 37.4%, compared with 42.5% a year earlier, which the company attributed to strategic investments tied to global expansion and broader IP category diversification. Backed by improved financial flexibility and a more stabilized cost structure, SAMG Entertainment said it plans to further expand both online and offline sales channels while accelerating diversification across its IP business portfolio.

Overseas revenue reached KRW 16.4 billion in the first quarter, accounting for approximately 44% of total sales as the company’s global business continues to scale. In China, SAMG Entertainment is preparing for the release of the second theatrical installment of Heartsping: Teenieping of Love, alongside the launch of a global media-commerce platform and official online store. In Japan, Catch! Teenieping Season 4 has expanded onto Tokyo TV, continuing the strong ratings momentum established by earlier seasons. In Taiwan, the company’s collaboration pop-up with Line Friends has expanded to five locations.

The company’s flagship IP brand, THE TEENIEPING, continues to gain traction among older audiences as SAMG Entertainment broadens its consumer demographic reach. During the first quarter, customers in their 20s and 30s accounted for approximately 65% of new sign-ups on the brand’s online mall and roughly 64% of total sales. At the THE TEENIEPING Seongsu flagship store, which opened in December 2025, visitors in their 20s represented 20.6% of early traffic, pointing to a growing adult fandom. Building on that momentum, the company opened additional THE TEENIEPING Mini locations in Jamsil and Cheongnyangni in April and is preparing further store expansions.

Another major franchise, Metal Cardbot, is also broadening its audience beyond children to include adult collectors. Metal Cardbot W (Season 3), which premiered in December 2025, surpassed a 16% viewership rating among its target audience and ranked No.1 among boys’ action animation franchises in Korea, while also leading sales rankings at major retail chains.

According to the company, adult collectors are becoming an increasingly significant part of the franchise’s customer base. Customers in their 30s and 40s accounted for 68.3% of purchases through SAMG Entertainment’s online mall and 82.6% on Naver Smart Store. The company said it plans to continue expanding awareness of the Metal Cardbot franchise across global markets including China and Russia, while strengthening its position as a K-mecha IP brand.

SAMG Entertainment has continued to expand its high-value licensing business through collaborations with leading brands across the automotive, finance, sports, beauty and retail sectors. This year, the company is broadening its collaboration portfolio to include global artists, films and games. Ongoing projects include Hyundai pop-ups in Goyang and Busan from May through August, a second consecutive year of successful collaboration merchandise with the KIA Tigers, partnerships with five K League clubs across both divisions, and the sold-out FILA Kids Teenieping Run, which attracted 3,000 children and adult participants. The company said additional globally focused collaboration projects are currently in development.

Looking ahead, SAMG Entertainment expects several major content releases to support growth in the second half of 2026. In the third quarter, the company plans to release The Legend of the Whale Heartstone, the second film in the Teenieping of Love theatrical trilogy. In the fourth quarter, Catch! Teenieping Season 7 and Miniforce Season 8 are scheduled to launch. The company is also preparing two new IPs targeting global family audiences, with launches planned beyond 2026–2027.

CEO Suhoon Kim said SAMG Entertainment is maintaining stable profitability while simultaneously pursuing business diversification and global expansion. “Through the continued expansion of the Teenieping universe, the growth of Metal Cardbot as a K-mecha IP franchise, and the launch of new IPs, we aim to further strengthen our position in the global IP market,” Kim said.
