SAMG Entertainment Co., Ltd.(CEO Suhoon Kim) announced on the 10th that it had recorded approximately 41.9 billion KRW($31.6M) in revenue and over 9 billion KRW($6.8M) in operating profit in the fourth quarter of 2024, marking a return to profitability for the first time in seven quarters.
According to the company’s regulatory filing detailing a more than 30% fluctuation in earnings, SAMG Entertainment’s full-year consolidated revenue for 2024 reached approximately 116.4 billion KRW($87.9M), reflecting a 22.4% increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the company’s annual operating loss improved significantly, contracting by 35.1% to 6.1 billion KRW($4.6M). Notably, the fourth quarter alone saw a dramatic turnaround, with operating profit soaring past 9 billion KRW($6.8M).
This remarkable financial recovery is attributed to a stabilized revenue structure and the successful execution of SAMG’s One Source Multi Use (OSMU) business strategy, which capitalized on its popular intellectual properties (IPs).
By the end of the third quarter, SAMG had completed the clearance of accumulated inventory, leading to a more than 20% reduction in its cost-to-sales ratio in Q4. Additionally, the company successfully internalized its distribution network, cutting selling, general, and administrative expenses by over 20%, further solidifying its financial foundation.
A significant boost also came from the box office success of <Heartsping: Teenieping of Love>, which contributed to ticket sales revenue, alongside a surge in demand for related merchandise that saw stock sell out repeatedly. Expanding licensing agreements across F&B, fashion, and other sectors—both domestically and internationally—further underscored SAMG’s ability to transform animation IP into a high-value business model.
SAMG stated, “2024 was a year in which we made profitability our top corporate priority, and we dedicated ourselves to achieving this turnaround,” SAMG Entertainment stated. “The success of <Heartsping: Teenieping of Love> and our strategic expansion of high-value IP-driven businesses allowed us to achieve both revenue growth and cost reduction simultaneously.”
Looking ahead, the company sees 2024’s fourth quarter as an inflection point. “With our cost-to-sales ratio and SG&A expenses both significantly lowered, we are now in a position to aim for full-year profitability in 2025,” a spokesperson added.
SAMG is also leveraging the heightened brand awareness generated by the film’s success to expand its IP portfolio into new demographics.
“The emergence of a ‘Super IP’ has allowed us to establish a scalable revenue model, and with steady growth in China and Japan, we are now setting our sights beyond Northeast Asia,” CEO Suhoon Kim remarked. “With major new business collaborations and fresh IP launches on the horizon—alongside the development of our proprietary platform—SAMG is poised for another leap forward in 2025 and beyond.”
